Government College Ughelli Old Boys Association, GCUOBA, class of ’71 has renovated and commissioned the dilapidated school sports complex as part of activities to mark their golden jubilee celebration.
This is just as Architect Charles Majoroh has been returned as the President General Worldwide of the Association for a second term.
According to the chairman of the class, Prince Emmanuel Obaigbona, “If you look at the back and the past, you will know that the best thing in life is to give back to the institution that has developed you and this is what we call social responsibilities.
“As a matter of fact, we have the best in Government College and whatever God has blessed us with, we will ensure we give back to the school to better than we met it.
“The pavilion was a shadow of itself before now but as you can see, the dressing room one and two, medical room and office attached to the the pavilion were renovated and seats for nearly over 200 persons were also provided to give a befitting look like a mini stadium.
Commending the Class of ’71, the President General Worldwide, Arc Charles Majoroh said, “I want to commend the Class of ’71 for taking over the renovation of the school pavilion, before now it was an eyesore.
“When they told me about their plan, I was a little bit concerned by the huge work that would be done because the roof was taken away by wind and I reluctantly agreed. But when they started, they were consistent and determined and that saw them through”.
Also the chairman of class ’80, Sir Endurance Miuwevwime while commending the GCUOBA class of ’71, called on other classes of the institutions to contribute their quota to the development of their Alma mater.
He said, “Government College Ughelli is an institution that is been reverend and as such other classes must come together and think of what they can do for the school. We are were we are today because we passed the the great institution.
The class of 1971 has done her part and it is expected that other classes should do same. Our Alma mater is a mini higher institution that should not be toyed with, hence we are calling on other classes to do same”. Miuwevwime said.
