By Omoghene Benedict,
The people’s democratic party (PDP) Olomu ward 1, Ughelli South local government area of Delta state has distanced itself from the law suit by Hon. Burne Ohwovoriole against the recently conducted local government Congress in the party, describing the move as a personal, selfish and ill-motivated over ambition to cause confusion and bring the integrity of the party to question in the ward.
Speaking on behalf of PDP Olomu ward, Amb. Chief Samuel Oghotomo JP, pointed out that the ward was surprised at the news that Hon. Burne Ohwovoriole took the party to court alleging that he was deprived by the party from contesting for the party’s local government chairmanship position when he never even indicated his interest to leaders, Executives and members of the party at his own ward level.
According to Chief Oghotomo, “The only person from Olomu ward who indicated interest to contest for LGA position in the ward was Bar. John Okoriko. He consulted with the party in the ward and also bought the form for the position of the party LGA legal adviser.
“The leaders, executive and members of ward campaigned with him during his consultations across the local government area and also mobilised with him to the congress at the local government and voted for him and with the chairman Hon. Micheal D. Oshetigho and they won.
“Bar. John Okoriko is the person we know as the representative of Olomu ward 1 in the current Ughelli south local government PDP Executive led by Hon. Michael D. Oshetigho.”
Speaking further, Oghotomo pointed that, Hon. Burne Ohwovoriole was a full fleshed member of the party who has benefited much from the party, he was a one time ward chairman of the party, two times councillor in the ward and a one time secretary to the local government council as an appointee from the ward.
“At these times, he was a very active member of the party, but during the build up to the 2019 general elections, he left the party to YES party because he had a candidate of the YES party who was contesting for House of Assembly in the election whom he was working with.
“He left the party, so even before he could come and say he wants to vie for any position in the party, he was supposed to formally return to the party and be re-admitted which he never did.
So, for me and we PDP Olomu ward 1, we do not see him ( Hon. Burne Ohwovoriole) as a member of the party and that account for while he did not consult with the party at the ward level to declare his intention to contest or participate in the party Congress.” Oghotomo hinted.
Also speaking on the same vein, PDP chieftains from Olomu ward 1, Hon. Barr. M.K Emuvakpor, a former Ughelli South chairman and a notable leader, Chief Princess Eguono Ogbon a former SSA to the Governor on Women Mobilisation said, “Olomu ward 1, PDP leaders, executives and party members are not with Hon. Burne Ohwovoriole over his selfish motivated move against the party.” They held.
