The Chairman of Ughelli South local Government Area, Dr. Richard Kofi has shut down two churches in Ekakpamre community for disobeying the state order of stay at home and social distance warning.
The churches, St. Peter’s Anglican Church and God’s Love Assembly at Ekrokpe Community were shut down at the instance local government chairman, Dr. Richard Kofi locked down,
The Evaluation, Monitoring and Enforcement Committee led by the Ughelli South Council Chairman, Hon.Richard Kofi has to close down the churches to prevent and curtail the spread of Covid-19.
Addressing newsmen at Otu-Jeremi headquarters of Ughelli South, Dr. Kofi said, “We were on monitoring, observation and enlightenment campaign when we ran into these two churches at Ekakpamre.
two pastors of the churches were arrested by the police and members of the churches asked to go and observe the stay at home directives by the state government.
Most of our people are very stubborn because they thought the Coronavirus pandemic is not real. This lockdown and stay at home directives is for our own benefits and good.
Our people should cooperate with the government of the state to fight and curtail the spread of Covid-19. It is witch-hunting but preventive and proactive measures.
Also, Senior Special Assistant to governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Youths and Community Development, Prince Sony Jifas Ogbon has appealed to the people of Ughelli South to adhere to the stay at home order.
Ogbon said, “This stay at home directives by the state government is one of the best thing Deltans should embrace with both hands because if you see what this Coronavirus pandemic has done in other countries, you will understand the threat.
“Our people should cooperate with the directives of the Delta State government and keep their environment clean and maintain the social distance.
“I was so surprise to see that pastors that we respect so much could not obey simple instructions because of selfishness on their side.
In other countries, markets, churches and other social gathering have been closed down, so we ougt to be grateful to the state government for this proactive measures and I am appealing to our people in Ughelli South to obey the rules and be law abiding.”
