Store owners opposite Ughelli Area Command and A’ Division are at the mercies of God as suspected burglars have continually raid stores belonging to Police Officer’s wives and traders opposite the Ughelli Area Command and A’ Division in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was gathered that, on the eve of Christmas, one of the stores belonging to woman known as, Fati directly opposite ‘Area Command’ was burgled cartihng away all that were stocked in her store like assorted drinks.
Immediately after Christmas, my store was burgled and my food stuffs, money and assorted drinks taken away, a Police Officer’s wife lamented.
It would be recalled that residents of Isodje in Oteri-Ughelli have raised alarm over the high rate of crime.
Also, One Madam Ogilo store who sells provisions and clothes was burgled and another store belonging to Police Officer wife (name withheld) that run a Bar and Restaurant.
Narrating her ordeal, the Police Officer’s wife who spoke on anonymous condition said, “It is a thing of shame for suspected burglars to come and burgle stores opposite police station without any action, no arrest being made by the police.
“My store was burgled thrice within the Christmas period and my drinks, huge amount of money and pots of soup were carted away.”
According to sources, “This has been a routine for some time now and the people are helpless because if people trading at the police station are being affected what is the hope of the common man in the street.
The source said, “A boutique belonging to an Ibo lady opposite Ughelli North Heath Centre by Government College was also burgled.
“At Oteri-Ughelli, a Police Officer house behind a fuel station (name withheld) was broken into and all properties were stolen by the unknown suspects while the officer was on official duty.
“We are just at the mercies of God because those who are to protect us are victims.
“We are calling on the Local government chairman, community leaders, local Vigilante and security agents to put heads together and map out new strategies to combat crime in Ughelli North. The source appealed.
A senior police officer attached to the Ughelli Area Command, who confirmed the urgly situation said, “We are aware of what is happening but we cannot do any thing because non of those affected have complained or incident their cases and we cannot force them to do so.” The anonymous security source held.
