ABUJA- The National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), Hon. Chief Frank Igwebuike has frowned at the Senate move to deregister political parties in Nigeria, says action a total breach to Nigerian Constitution.
Chief Frank Igwebuike spoke to newsmen today in his National office Secretariat today in F.C.T, Abuja when asked on his view as regards the recent move by the National Assembly, Nigerian Senate to deregister political parties to a bearest minimum of five(5) in the country.
The National PDM Boss described the attempt as a breach to fundamental human rights of citizens while stating that deregistration of political parties is not and will never be one of the political, Socio-cultural, and economic problems militating against Nigeria’s sustainable Economic growth and development.
In his words: “Nota Bene ….The National Assembly doesn’t have the powers to tinker with the fundamental rights of Nigerians.The Supreme Court of Nigeria has in the past ruled on the fact that, INEC has no power to deregister any political party”.
Chief Frank Igwebuike then advised the Nigerian Senate, National Assembly and Federal Government to concentrate on the economy by promoting various economic indices such as making viable policies formulations and implementations capable of ushering in sustainable peace and security in the country.
He opinned that the Senate should avoid diversionary tendencies in their service to the nation rather concentrate more on ensuring that the nation’s economic fortune comes to normalcy by making laws that will promote friendly environment for foreign investors, promote infant industries, increase export, increase the country’s external reserves to reduce the debt burden of the country and promote economic growth and development.
