COMRADE Egbagbara Blessing JP, has emerged the chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Ughelli North chapter after keenly contested election that was held recently.
The election was conducted at the NUT secretariat, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta and Egbagbara who was the former secretary of the Union pulled, 214 votes against against other contenders for position, Erhurhore Richard and Odjede Godspower that scored 172 and 137 votes respectively.
Addressing newsmen after the election, Comrade Egabagbara Blessing assured teachers in Ughelli North of quality representation.
According to him, “The era of deducting teachers salaries without their consent and unaccountable for explanations are over and as the newly elected chairman I and my executive will work assiduously to put an end to such deductions.
“Ughelli North chapter of the NUT has over 2,400 teachers and as the chairman anything that would affect their deduction will be made known to them and their consent would be seek and any spending would be made public to avoid accusations.
“We run an open door policy for easy accessibility by NUT members in Ughelli and I shall be very prudent in running the affairs of the Union.
“I was the secretary of the Union for over 8-years and during that period we able to erect an edifce as ‘Teachers’ House’ in Ughelli and the first in the entire country and now that I am the chairman, greater benefits will come to our teachers.
“Am appealing to all aggrieved persons, candidates and others to join hands together to move Ughelli North chapter of the NUT forward because it is the mother body that brought teachers to fight a common just cause”.
