…Calls for prayers, unity
BY ITEVEH EKPOKPOBE
Former Secretary to Delta State Government, Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay has called on the President Muhammad Buhari led government to desist from actions proving detrimental to the development of democracy so as not to bring Nigeria to ruin.
He said recent acts of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led government are in no way, encouragement to the growth of the country’s nascent democracy.
Macaulay in a statement issued, by his Press Secretary, in celebration of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, posited that President Buhari has failed to give requisite attention to the security question of the country as well as the welfare of security personnel.
He lamented Buhari’s feigned ignorance of the onslaught of Nigerian soldiers by terrorist groups adding that his apt attention is only divided between empowering political war machines and tracking down political opponents in the guise of antigraft war.
According to him, the Armed Forces Remembrance Day is set aside to reflect on sacrifices made by gallant soldiers to keep Nigeria one, urging Nigerians not to relent in praying for those who died in the course of the civil war, and that they are all Nigerians irrespective of ethnicity or factions.
He said the armed forces must be intellectually equipped so as to understand the intricacies of the role they must play within the committee of nations, explaining that, they must be physically alert in order to meet the demands of combat readiness.
The veteran Labour leader, warned against the indulgence of military personnel in political affairs of the country noting that, a soldier that leaves his place of calling to indulge himself in the affairs of the country is not worthy of being called a soldier.
While praying that God should comfort and strengthen those who lost their loved ones, Macaulay called on the Federal Government to immortalize men like the murdered former Chief of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh and others who have lost their lives in the cause of this regime.
